Referee in Chief - Phil Linklater (email@example.com)
The basic role of the official can be broken down into two simple words –safe and fair.
Welcome to the 2020/2021 Season.
Welcome to the 2020/2021 Season. I hope you are all well rested and ready for another exciting year officiating with Semiahmoo MHA. This year is going to be unique to say the least. Covid-19 has changed many aspects of our lives and hockey is no exception. While no one can accurately predict what this year will bring, we do know there will be less games this year and of course, a strong focus on the health and safety of players, coaches and officials.
Important Information from Hockey Canada and BC Hockey for Officials
BC Hockey and Hockey Canada have some great information that will answer may of your questions from Certification to Health and Safety procedures on and off the ice. Please read all information carefully as it will be our expectation that all of the guidelines are followed for the health and safety of everyone involved in minor hockey.
Hockey Canada’s guidelines have officially been published. Please read over these along with the General Information links below, so you are fully prepared when it becomes time to officiate games.
The BC Hockey officiating program will update us soon in respect to next steps of planning a strategy for providing support to all local programs with regard to seasonal planning, registration, certification and training.
I will forward this information to all officials when it becomes available. The certification will likely be online this year and again, more information will follow.
This if going to be a different year for all of us, but know that our officials will do the best they can to make this a successful year.
Even though Semiahmoo MHA has a very high retention rate for officials, if you know someone interested in becoming a referee, please have them e-mail Semiahmoo Referee in Chief, Phil Linklater at firstname.lastname@example.org. The certification process for new officials under 16 is different and I will be directly contacting new officials as to where and when the certification clinic will be.
The procedure for certification clinics will hopefully be posted on the BC Hockey Clinic’s Website soon. All returning officials must attend one of these clinics which will likely be online this year. If you are over 16, you can register for level 2 certification.
You must be certified each year through BC Hockey to officiate with SMHA.
The link below should answer any questions you have when BC Hockey has updated this section. Remember certification is the Responsibility of BC Hockey and if you have any questions/concerns, you should contact BC Hockey directly.
Looking forward to another great year!
